Dreamer’s Notes – Day New:  IMG_1507

Rather than litter the internet with random facts about myself written in third person, I thought it would more interesting to share how I came up with the idea for The Dreamer’s Notebook and how I truly hope it inspires people to embrace their dreams with the same fervor as their next breath.

My name is N. Lewis and I am a dreamer (surprise). I’ve always had a passion for writing and photography, but my dreams were often something I kept shelved in the back corner of my mind – somewhere between my idealism and vacation plans. Fortunately, my dreams took on a life of their own and begin to chase me around my mind until I had nowhere left to go.

After over a decade in a career that was, at times, gratifying, but never fulfilling, I wanted more and felt like I had more to offer. So following an epiphany in a dimly lit post-op room (re: small emergency surgery), I realized my dreams were going to haunt me until I gave them the attention and care they needed and deserved.

Some years back, my wife suggested I put my writings with pictures I had taken. It sounded great, but I didn’t have the slightest idea where to start, how to package it, or how to turn it into something more than just a collection of inspirational postcards. Fast-forward a few years. I’m sitting at one of life’s proverbial crossroads, trying to decide what to do with my life and I got mad.

I was angry with myself for trying to navigate my future using a sparse of array of footprints that looked like they were leading somewhere. I finally stopped and asked myself what I did well and why it mattered. The answer, and the title of this book, came soon after with a burning clarity.

So far, each step has brought my dreams closer into the arms of reality and further away from fear, insecurities, and the frustrations of a less than fulfilling journey. My idealism has even comeback with a vengeance (no time for vacation planning at the moment though).

There’s a lot of road ahead and, taking a note or two from other travelers, not all of it is paved.  The Dreamer’s Notebook is as much my own travel guide as it is meant to be an inspiration to dreamers everywhere.

. . .More notes to come

“Dream well. Dream often.”
